Why? To celebrate the fact that underage drinking rates in Portland have been declining since 1995, 21 Reasons sponsored a Prom Photo Contest! Since underage drinking can harm the developing brain (which actually stops developing at the ripe old age of 25!), this decline in drinking rates is cause for celebration!
We are making underage drinking a thing of the past…just like those tacky prom dresses. Learn how on our Parent Resource page.
Underage drinking is becoming
a thing of the past! A recent report from the Maine Office of Substance Abuse states that most of today's youth do not drink.
In addition, a 2008 parent phone survey by 21 Reasons in Portland found that more parents are taking concrete steps to keep their children from drinking.
The graph on the left is from the Maine Youth Drug and Alcohol Use Survey (MYDAUS), and shows the percent of students in grades 6-12 reporting alcohol use in the last 30 days. Source: Maine Office of Substance Abuse
